Gaming and Simulation for Education and Training

“Purpose affirms trust, trust affirms purpose, and together they forge individuals into a working team.” General Stanley McChrystal

Moving beyond a subject matter expert transmission model, THE LEADS INSTITUTE learning approach is more about experiences than about content – these are self-directed, inquiry-based, facilitated learning experiences, where the learner develops skills by making connections and creating new knowledge.

Multiplayer games and simulations will allow learners to "train like we fight," in small teams, benefiting from shared experiences and peer learning. Easier, more inexpensive gaming tools will greatly broaden participation in game-based experiential learning. Games will move beyond hardware simulation and battlefield tactics to mastering complex challenges in the areas of interpersonal and collaboration skills, dramatically improving learner engagement and retention in these areas. New approaches that integrate people, organizations, processes, and technology will optimize opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and interoperability.

The LEADS INSTITUTE promotes next-generation “Unified Cause” demonstrations and exercises will be co-created by participants, go beyond technical interoperability to focus on developing trust, and be integrated into broader training and educational opportunities. Organizations built on new paradigms will become central to knowledge sharing, collaboration, training, and education. Capabilities such as Fusion Centers, Virtual Command Centers, and a Virtual Security University (VSU) will be composable, distributed, and have some elements that are ad-hoc.

Depending upon client requirements, and powered by advanced analytics, intelligent programs will adapt content, pacing, and presentation to the learner's strengths and preferences. The LEADS Institute helps educators to improve their courses with the enhanced measurement, analysis, and reporting of when and how learners engage in them, and how their skills develop through those interactions.

Digital, online knowledge repositories will become increasingly important to the capture, management, and sharing of information. LEADS INSTITUTE tailored Training and Education programs incorporate a network of knowledge repositories to build essential skills in contributing knowledge, finding information, and collaborating with peers and experts.

This blended approach to learning introduces opportunities for cost savings while delivering high-impact knowledge services supported by academic collaboration and implemented through Knowledge Fusion Centers and regional Resilience Readiness Centers – the end-state vision of the LEADS INSTITUTE initiative.
